Faster broadband funding is made available in Kent

Using a computer United slowly climbing up the broadband rankings rural communities in Kent which has slow broadband connections is now able to bid for money from £ 1. 5 m fund to help faster.

Kent County Council (KCC) has announced that community groups, parish councils and local authorities can apply for grants of up to £ 100,000.


The Council said that all programs must have a sound business plan.


-To have access to fast broadband is as important as any other tools, services, says Councillor Kevin Lynes.

Broadband ' not spots "

"Successful tenders will be able to make a real difference to the local population and change their quality of life," said Mr. Lynes, CABINET Member for regeneration and economic development.


"Many rural areas have" not spots "which means they have slow broadband or no service at all."


KCC said it hoped the faster internet connections would help companies in rural areas, and to create jobs and prosperity.


"But there are only so many communities, we can help, and finally by proving that the demand for broadband, we hope Telecom providers will take responsibility for bringing this technology" more difficult to reach "areas," said Mr. Lynes.
